This little scene has popped up on my route to/from work, on the North Rudyard Road. Can you read that pointing arrow sign?? It says, "RIGS." As in OIL rigs, people. Oil!! THIS WAY! OVER HERE! Come One, Come All!
All I have to say right now is, Yikes! while trying to quell a deep feeling of foreboding. Maybe if I drive the other way home from work, I can ignore this longer and it will all just go away.
It doesn't look like much is happening, but that structure, whatever it is, was recently built (in the past week and a half) and they have moved a lot of dirt around the site. There are also one or two temporary housing pods. I honestly don't know much about oil drilling, but, unfortunately, not many positive thoughts enter my mind when I think about it. I realize that whatever this North Rudyard Road oil operation is, it is very small compared to what it could be. I just hope it's not growing.
Jeff thinks that even if it does grow, it will never compare to the Bakken Formation over in Eastern Montana/Western North Dakota. I'm not entirely clear on his logic, but I hope he's right. I told him that if we get oil even close to what they have in Eastern Montana, I am moving back to Iowa and I don't care whether or not he comes with me.
That's not true entirely. I was joking about whether or not he comes with me, but I was not joking about moving back to Iowa. I would give that some serious consideration.
Here's a recent article from the Great Falls Tribune on the Bakken: http://www.greatfallstribune.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2012204300305
In other news, I am leaving today for vacation and likely won't update the blog for a week or two. See you all when I get back!
