A Day in the Life

Mondays are great!  I don't have to work on Monday, at least, not at my day job in Chester.  I DO work around the house and help on the farm, which is usually enjoyable and makes me feel like I'm part of the operation.  I like to think I play a role in the overall productivity of the farm.

Here is an example of a day in the life...

We drove up north to look at our recently seeded fields of winter wheat.  I was surprised to see that some of it was already sprouting.  Jeff explained to me that this was the first field he had seeded, and it had been about ten days, so this was really not all that unusual.  It is nice to see it poking out of the ground.  To me, it is a good sign.  Although, I have very, very limited knowledge and experience.

Harvey often accompanies us around the farm. This  is a rare moment captured on film when he is NOT running or chasing something.

Jeff and I also drove the drills back to Tom and Carol's place where they will be stored until spring.  It is only about a ten mile trip, but you can only go about 12 miles per hour... so it takes a long time. Jeff could pull two behind him in the tractor, and I had one hitched behind me in the pickup.  Then Jeff had to go back for the fourth.  I kind of liked this image with the Sweetgrass Hills in the background.  I did take it through the dashboard window of the pickup, which needs to be cleaned.  I think it adds a nice level of authenticity to the shot...

I also saw my first badger today. This isn't the greatest photo of him, but you get the idea.  Many people like to shoot badgers, but badgers eat gophers, and gophers are a huge nuisance.  So, we don't mind having them around.  I think they are kind of cool-looking, besides.

Now, it's time to get ready for dinner.  Tonight, elk and veggie kebabs on the grill! Plus baked potatoes and apple crisp.  A pretty good day!
