Fishing in the Dark

I must admit the break between harvesting winter wheat/barley and spring wheat has been nice.  It's looking like the spring wheat will be ready later this week, but for now, we are enjoying summer evenings.

Last night, after watching a little Bears pre-season football, Jeff and I drove to a neighbor's farm reservoir for a little sunset fishing.  Although it had been exceedingly windy all day yesterday (and again today! yuck!), the wind died down around dusk and the fish were jumping all over the place. We rowed out to the middle of the pond and set about casting flies.  My streak of never having caught a fish continued. Jeff had one on the line but couldn't bring it in. In his defense, we had switched fly rods and, being the novice that I am, I had put my reel on backwards.  On top of that, Jeff and I fish with different dominant hands. So here he his, trying to pull in a large trout with a reel that was backwards and upside down. Oops!

Harvey also enjoyed himself--fixated with ducks that kept landing and taking off of the surface of the water.  I'm surprised he never jumped out of the boat to go after them!

All in all, it was a really pleasant night. Hope we can get out there again soon!
