Springtime

After a long April of cold temperatures, rain and snow, and interminable wind, today it feels like Spring is upon us. Tulip bulbs I planted outside our house a few years ago are nearing bloom stage and the flowering crabapple is beginning to bud out. Evenings are gloriously long, with beautiful sunsets and that just-right glow of light. The prairie is beginning to tinge more on the green side and show less gray-brown. Birds have reappeared, as have antelope and deer. Our cows are back at pasture, calves at their side.
Spring seeding is in progress now. Between the two farms, we have seeded winter wheat (seeded last fall), yellow peas, barley, and are in the process of finishing up with spring wheat. I really shouldn’t say “we,” however because I have done almost nothing to aid in seeding efforts. Rather, Jeff, Tom, and Carol have kept the seeding operations running as smoothly as possible. Everything should be finished up within the next week or so, then on to the next project. Soon, we will need to begin working in our garden as well.
I continue to stay busy with track practice and meets. This is the busiest part of the season for meets, but things will start to wind down next week as post-season meets begin. Districts, Divisionals, and State take place over the remaining weeks in May. The team- both boys and girls- are doing fantastic. The girls have a chance to win the State Meet again this year for Montana Class C. Here is a nice article from the Great Falls Tribune about the North Star Lady Knights:  http://www.greatfallstribune.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2013304300034 Although I regret seeing less of my husband, I am nevertheless loving my time spent coaching Track.

I am getting my wish today, however. With Tom and Carol out of town, I am here for the weekend (despite track meets in Laurel and Cut Bank) to help Jeff with seeding. With good weather forecasted for today and tomorrow, we should have a chance to finish it up.
