Well hello everyone!
I realize there has been a long drought of blog posts over the past 6 or 8 weeks. Calving began, and then track season (more about this later), and I just found that I was really busy. And when I do have down time, I want to spend it with my husband or my dog, rather than in front of the computer.
I also realize that many of you really have enjoyed reading the blog updates, and have missed them over the course of this little hiatus. The comments and questions I have heard relayed through my in-laws and other family members are appreciated. I have to admit, however, that sometimes I feel like I am doing nothing more than writing a weekly newsletter of the goings-on of my life. I confess I’ve been in a bit of a funk, or writers’ block, or internal debate about keeping up the blog. I don’t want it to feel like a chore, but to feel like something I look forward to.
So here’s a few things that may or may not remedy the situation. 1) I may interject more of my personal thoughts, feelings, and opinions into the blog. If I’m not ultimately writing what I want to write because I want to write it, than why am I trying to keep it up, anyway? 2) Please, if you read a blog post that touches you, makes you think, makes you question, anything, communicate it. Leave a comment, send an email, give a call, whatever. It really helps me feel engaged with you, the readers, most of whom are my friends and family, and keeps me motivated to continue to write and post.
Originally, I started Prairie Ponderings as an exploration of the rural Northern Montana lifestyle I have been adapting to. I think that general “theme,” if you will, is still relevant. None of us has life figured out, wherever we are located, and least of all me in this place! J Later, I decided it was important to educate and share experiences about the practices and happenings of our farm, specifically. I still think this is valuable as well, and will continue to incorporate ag-related posts. I think people need to know where their food comes from, whether it is a small-scale home garden, or a large family farm and ranch, such as ours. Those are the two main strains of Prairie Ponderings. They’re pretty general, and they’re not exclusive.
The third theme, which may be more of a sub-theme, would be titled Katie’s Special Interests, if it were given a title, that is. This includes things like arts and literature, cooking, gardening, health and fitness, movies, etc. I may or may not try to tie these posts back to the larger themes of agriculture or rural living on the Hi-Line.
I guess this post turned into more or less a definition of what Prairie Ponderings is, at least to me. I think it was necessary, probably to no one other than me, to remind myself what my purpose is with the blog. I’ll write another, more interesting post, as I get time. Perhaps over the weekend.
