OK, Phil-- You Predicted Winter, so Where Is It???

Happy Groundhog Day!

I understand that Punxsutawney Phil did indeed see his shadow earlier today, thereby prognosticating six more weeks of winter.  Punxsutawney Phil clearly does not live in Montana, or else his concept of winter would extend much longer than six weeks from February 2.

Here's a comic I saw today:

It does seem, however as though our Montana winter has overall been fairly mild so far. Not much more than the occasional skiff of snow in total, and only one short spell of below-zero weather has kept the winter-haters happy.  Personally, I enjoy a good snowshoe hike, nordic-ski scamper, and/or downhill adventure, so I'm a bit sad there hasn't been more snow, at least.  I think some of the farmers are a little nervous over the apparent lack of moisture as well.

There is lots of winter left for snowfall and bitter cold, so we shall not lose hope that winter as we know it will not be as such this year. Calving will start soon on our operation, which means Jeff and Tom will take turns checking the cows every few hours, even through the night, regardless of weather.  It seems as though typically a cold wintery blast hits right as calving really starts to pick up.  Go figure.  If indeed the winter stays as mild as it has been, I hereby declare Punxsutawney Phil to be off his rocker.
