One of the best offerings Montana has to give is its mountains. The mountains here are beautiful. Now that I live in a part of the state where the tremendous views are more horizontal than they are vertical, our retreat this past weekend reminded me of why people think of mountains when they think of Montana.
We drove west on Highway 2, mountain-bound. I have heard it said that the Big Sky State ends at Browning. The town is positioned where the plains meet the Rocky Mountain Front, near where this photo was taken. Table-flat farmland abutting jagged, upturned rocky earth.
After only three and a half hours (or so) of driving, we arrived at our destination: Glacier Wilderness Resort. The cabin is located between the towns of Essex and West Glacier, MT, just south of the southern border of Glacier National Park. It was everything a cabin should be-- cozy, secluded, relaxing, and equipped with a hot tub. We spent our days reading, lounging by the fire, cross-country skiing, playing games, and of course, hot-tubbing. No phones. No computers. It was excellent.
